Website Q&A's

Q: How compact is the FireFly?
A: Please refer to the Technical Information page of this website.

Q: How far should the tip of the FireFly be from the sensor?
A: When using the FireFly, one should be very careful not to contact the sensor surface or the camera mirror. We recommend that the tip of the cleaner be no closer than ½” to the sensor face.

Q: Can the FireFly be carried aboard a passenger plane?
A: Yes. Unlike other cleaning methods that use solvents or compressed air, the FireFly, being classified as a “portable electronic device”, can be carried onto a plane.

Q: Will the FireFly remove “sticky” substances from the sensor?
A: No. The FireFly is the best method to remove “non-fixed” dust and particulate that is typically held in place by a static charge. If the sensor has substances that can not be removed by the FireFly, we strongly suggest the camera be sent to the manufacturer or their authorized service center for cleaning.

Q: Does the FireFly require periodic maintenance?
A: We suggest that the battery and filter be changed on an annual basis unless operating conditions dictate more frequent replacement. Should the exterior surfaces become soiled, we recommend cleaning with mild soap and water. Note: Do not submerge or allow water to enter the unit.

Q: What should I do if water or other liquids get into the unit?
A: Do not attempt to clean or operate the unit. We strongly suggest that you contact NRD via e-mail and request a Return Authorization and send the unit to us for evaluation.

Q: Can the FireFly be used for other applications?
A: Yes. The FireFly can be used to remove a static charge from camera lenses, the cover glass used in framing, the glass bed on scanners, and a wide variety of other applications. If you have a question about a potential application, please contact via e-mail.

Q: Are there any restocking fees if I return a product for credit?
A: Yes, there is a 15% restocking charge.

Q: If I return a product for credit, how long does it take for my account to be credited?
A: Credit is issued 30 days after receipt per our Return Policy.

Q: How long do I have to return a product?
A: To receive full credit (less shipping charges and restocking fees) – 15 days after receipt of order. A partial credit will be issued for products returned up to 30-days after receipt of order. After 30-days, no credit will be issued.
